In The Beginning
Genesis 1
In John 1:1-4 we are told that, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him and apart from Him nothing came into being. In Him was life and the life was the life of men.” NASB
No matter what one believes about the origin of the earth and life, whatever we believe, we believe by faith. Most, if not all, theories of how the world began explain some sort of event that took place but they don’t explain where the elements that formed the earth came from. It is as if they always existed. Here in Genesis 1, starting with verse 3 we are told God, who has always existed, spoke the Word and the earth and life were created. Ultimately though, we must take this by faith. Hebrews 11:3 says, “By Faith we understand the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.” NASB
I invite you to journey with us through this study in the Bible even if you are skeptical. All of us have faith in something, some belief. Where we choose to put our faith is our choice, but where it leads is not. Faith in the Bible is based on hope. The Bible introduces us to a hope that goes beyond the boundaries of this world and reaches to the throne of God who created the heavens and the earth. Faith can also be put into things that bring fear resulting in worry and anxiety which often causes people to attempt to control what we cannot control. You see what we do in this life is a response to what we have believed and put our faith in. As I said before, we all have faith in something. Why not take a few minutes and examine what you have put your faith in? Why not choose to put your faith in God who promises a hope and a future, inner peace, and purpose in life?
