Notes in Exodus 8-10

In Chapter 8:22 God is going to make it clear that He is God and Pharaoh is not. The Magicians have already figured this out verse 19 tells us, but in Pharaoh’s case pride has blinded him to the truth. God is going to do something different that Pharaoh can and will see. This time only the Egyptians will suffer the plagues but not the Israelites who are living next door.

These plagues are also having an effect on Moses and Aaron. They are getting stronger. The Israelites are growing in faith and trust in God which will be absolutely necessary when we get to the last plague.  In chapter 9:20 we will also see that some Egyptians are letting go of their faith in Pharaoh and starting to listen to what God is saying through Moses.

Pharaoh made his life choices based on a lie. Could he have changed his mind? Would God have let him? Check out 1 Kings 21:17-29.

The process of plague after plague continues into Chapter 10.  God took Pharaoh through Three sets of 3’s. Three times his Magicians duplicated the plague. Three times the plagues only affected Egypt. Israel did not experience these plagues. Three times Pharaoh said he had sinned but his repentance was emotional, not heart felt. As soon as there was relief from the plagues he went right back to his old ways.  It is interesting that Pharaoh had to ask Moses for relief from the plagues but he is so prideful he just doesn’t get it.

Chapter 10 ends with Pharaoh very angry. He is losing control but Moses and Aaron seem quite calm and in control. Pharaoh’s threats do not scare them. That is the difference between becoming increasingly hardened or becoming increasingly stronger.  Pharaoh thinks he is done with Moses and Aaron but he has an appointment with Proverbs 29:1 coming up.

 Stay Strong
