Revelation 7-9

Trumpets

In Chapter 8 we read that when the seventh seal is opened there is silence in Heaven. An angel has a censor full of incense which is added to the prayers of the saints that are on the golden altar in Heaven. The prayers along with the incense are an aroma pleasing to the Lord.

Have you ever prayed, “Thy kingdom come Thy will be done?” Those prayers are about to be answered. In verse 5 we read that the angel filled his censor with fire from the altar and threw it to earth where there was thunder and lighting and an earthquake.  These are symbols of God speaking.

Back in Chapter 4 we read that when the twenty-four elders worship the Lord and cast their crowns before the throne they say. “Worthy art Thou, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power; for Thou didst create all things, and because of Thy will they existed, and were created.” Revelation 4:11 NASB

What do you believe about creation? Do you believe God created the heavens and the earth? Lots of alternate theories are being talked about today. Hebrews 11:3 says, ‘By Faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.” NASB

What we believe about creation is very much a part of our faith. Today many discredit the idea that this world was created by God. The evolution of the evolution theory (sorry for the pun) has led people to believe we are destroying the planet and we must act now if we are going to save the earth and sustain life.

When the first four trumpets are blown this world is going to go through events beyond imagination. These will come from things that are far beyond anything man could control. The existence of mankind and this planet will be as it always was, at the mercy and power of God. Much life will be lost and everything that we took for granted regarding this earth will be shaken but the last verse of Chapter 8 tells us things are just getting started. There is much more to come.

There seems to be a rise of interest in Witchcraft, Spiritualism, New Age, Idolatry, super human power, gore, and death. We see it in what the entertainment industry constantly puts before us.  We are told in Ephesians to beware of letting our anger take control to the point where we let Satan get a foothold in our life. Yet we invite him in our lives by what we watch and obsess on from the media. So as we read Chapter 9 it is not a surprise that God is going to allow mankind an extra dose of these things when the bottomless pit is opened up and locusts like demons are allowed to torment mankind. Verse 11 tells us that their king is named “Destruction” or “Destroyer.” Those who obsess on those things will have their fill.

Mankind will be so tormented that they will want to die but death will flee from them. Meanwhile when the sixth angel sounds the trumpet a two hundred million man army will gather and four angels will be released to kill a third of mankind.

We read in verses 20 and 21 that in spite of all that has happened, those who survive will be unwilling to repent. It reminds us of Pharaoh in the book of Exodus who endured plague after plague and would feign repentance until there was relief and then he would harden his heart and renege on his repentance and exalt himself as a god all the way to his death. That is the problem. Man has exalted himself in his own eyes to the status of god, thinking he is in control of this earth.  In spite of all we have read it appears the heart remains hard. Hard hearts will be broken.

It looks like this pattern is going to repeat.
