Proverbs 28:1

The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, But the righteous are as bold as a lion. NASB

In this verse, the word “bold” literally means “confident.” The key to confidence is righteousness. Righteousness is not a result of boldness or confidence. Righteousness is the result of faith. Fear is misplaced faith. Romans 12:3 tells us that God has allotted each of us a measure of faith. We read in Genesis 15 that God spoke to Abram regarding His plan for Abram and his descendants. The first thing God said to him was “Do not fear.” In verse 6 we read that Abram believed in the Lord and it was reckoned as righteousness.

Romans 10:9-10, If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. NASB

So, the road to confidence or boldness starts with hearing the Word of God, and believing the Word of God. Placing our faith in the God who spoke the Word, and faith will be reckoned as righteousness. It begs the question. What’s in your heart?
