Proverbs 25:28
He that hath no rule over his own Spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls.
The bulk of the verses in this chapter center around the theme of boundaries. As our young man prepares for his leadership role as king he is going to need boundaries in place, especially in areas of weakness.
Boundaries and discipline go hand in hand and develop character. Much of the actions, and consequences we experience, result from making emotional, “act now,” decisions rather than decisions based on wisdom. Therefore we must have wisdom in place if we are to make good decisions.
We were introduced to setting up boundaries back in Chapter 4. Solomon said his father told him to, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. Proverbs 4:4 KJV
The word translated as “keep” means build a hedge with thorns. This type of hedge protects us from invasion and also from harming ourselves when temptation comes.
As this young man moves into leadership he needs to consider the character and boundaries of those he lets influence him. Verses 5 and 13.
