Proverbs 18:12
Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honor is humility. KJV
To be haughty in this verse means to be lifted up in pride. The Hebrew word is also translated as “high” or exalted.
God is to be exalted in our lives. When we exalt ourselves because of pride we are robbing God of the glory due Him. Worse yet, this type of pride will blind us from exalting God because we have placed the focus on ourselves.
Our enemy has put stumbling blocks in the paths of life. Our study in the book of Proverbs is meant to train us to watch out for them. Proverbs 16:18
If we are distracted from watching out for these stumbling blocks they are sure to trip us up.
The way to avoid these stumbling blocks, and the destruction they cause, is to trade in haughtiness for humility. Micah 6:8 tells us how. He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? KJV
Christians are God’s ambassadors to the world. Exalt God, walk humbly!
