Proverbs 10:22

It is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich, And he adds no sorrow to it. NASB

In my early years of self -employment I attended a Bible study based on Business By The Book by Larry Burkett. Proverbs 10:22 was an often quoted verse by the Bible study leader. This verse was in direct conflict with everything I had learned in life, in the culture, and college. I didn’t want to be ridiculously rich. I just wanted to live a comfortable life and have the freedom to buy and do what I wanted. I saw money as the key to making those things happen. Turns out I was building my house on the sand and there were some storms that drove me to this Bible study. Matthew 7:26-27

There are hundreds of verses in the Bible about money. God does not say money is evil but the love or worship of it is or will lead to evil. To look to money as the source of blessing is foolishness. Money may lead to a temporary blessing but it soon fades leaving only a hunger for more. We read in Ephesians 1:3 that God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places. Aren’t we looking for peace, security, to be loved, valued, and have purpose?  These are just a few of the blessings God gives that money can’t give.
