Proverbs 27:19
As in water face reflects face, So the heart of man reflects man. NASB
In the first few verses in this chapter we can see some of the emotional forces that reflect the heart of man. Emotional forces like pride are exposed by boasting or praising ourselves. In verse 4 we read of wrath, anger, and jealousy. These are just a few of the many emotions that can cause us harm in our walk with the Lord as we seek to serve him.
Sadly, the world tends to embrace these as good but really they are like a fog on the path of life that hides stumbling blocks and consequences.
Verses 5-10 show us the value of a faithful friend to help guide us as we walk the path together. I remember having coffee with such a friend years ago. We met together weekly. I had gone through an event that hurt me and I would “debrief “my betrayal until one day he said, “Dave I hope one day you will get over this.”
He was right. My pain, anger, and venting, was actually harming me and those close to me, not helping me.
I learned that what I don’t forgive I have to live with. If we want to change we must take action.
