Proverbs 22:1&2

A good name is to be more desired than great wealth, Favor is better than silver and gold. The rich and poor have a common bond, The Lord is the maker of them all. NASB

It seems to me that these days’ people want a six figure salary and a seven figure retirement. I don’t think those are bad goals but how important they are and what one is willing to do to reach these goals may well be a bad thing.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:32 & 33, (For after these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knowith that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. KJV

Higher on the list than wealth, is to desire a good name. To be known as one who can out bargain another person rather than pay a fair price is to take advantage of someone God may have wanted to bless. That can’t be high on the list. To trust in wealth is to have our faith in the idol of Mammon.

God wants to be on the top of our list of our desires. He doesn’t say what He will do if He is down on the list.
